I emigrated from Scotland to the USA in 2001 and moved to Madison, AL in July 2009. With a background in nursing and social work, I am truly a care-giver and nurturer by nature.
My love for animals originated in early childhood when I developed a particularly deep affection for dogs. However, at the tender age of three, my parents refused to indulge my passion, nor did they take kindly to my suggestion they take my new baby sister back to the hospital and trade her in for a dog!
Growing up, I had no willpower for local strays and injured wildlife. Much to my mother’s chagrin, I frequently brought home a menagerie of critters. I indulged my love for dogs by dog-walking for friends, family and neighbors. I adored the dogs I walked; I forged a deep bond with them, and them with me. During my adolescence I also developed a keen interest in horses and horse-riding. Rain, hail or shine, I made the four mile one-way trek on foot to the local stables to pursue my pastime and help care for the horses.
The quality of my adult life has been greatly enhanced by a variety of pets; from dogs and cats, to a duck I hatched in an incubator when his mom deserted her nest. I am currently owned by Brett, a 9yr old Golden Retriever, Hubble, a 4yr old black pug, and Leo, an 8yr old Persian cat. I am experienced at giving oral, topical and intra-muscular medication. My passion for all animals, and my deep affection for my ‘babies’ transfers easily to yours. There are surely few things more fulfilling than gaining the trust and respect of an animal. The love you give is reciprocated ten-fold.
